The Fourth Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) Ministerial Meeting will be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, February 27 and 28, 2020. Jamaica’s hosting of the important event was announced at the III ECPA Ministerial held in Viña del Mar, Chile when Jamaica assumed chairmanship of ECPA in September 2017. Jamaica’s acceptance of the Chairmanship of ECPA is in line with its commitment to furthering the hemispheric and regional development agenda. The hosting of the Ministerial Meeting presents a valuable opportunity for Jamaica to highlight the progress made on the national level in its energy security and diversification efforts. It also presents an opportunity to demonstrate Jamaica’s leadership in promoting regional energy cooperation, strategic partnerships and open dialogue on energy related issues.

The Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology (MSET), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT), is leading the effort for the hosting of this High-Level meeting, which is expected to see Energy Ministers from the thirty three (33) other member countries of ECPA and other regional dignitaries being present in Montego Bay for the two day event.

The Ministerial will be held in Montego Bay under the theme “Energy Resilience and Investment Opportunities”. This Ministerial will foster public-private policy dialogue between business and government leaders in the Americas on priorities, challenges, and opportunities for economic growth and development. Discussions will be centred on issues relating to financial mechanisms for clean and renewable energy, investment opportunities in energy efficiency, electric mobility as well as strategies to increase private sector engagement in energy infrastructure development.

Why Attend?

For Hemispheric Dialogue on Energy

Ministers, Heads of Delegation, Energy Agencies, Private Sector and International Development Partners will be afforded a space to discuss actions to further country engagement and participation under the ECPA umbrella, and share their government’s priorities in energy.

Considering that Latin America and the Caribbean countries are conscious of the significant opportunities for economic growth and resilience that de-carbonization can create through expanded renewable energy use, greater energy efficiency, and the transition toward electric mobility, the Ministerial allows for greater dialogue on experiences, policy options, and technologies to ignite sustainable solutions in the Americas.
